Volcanoes, Rivers and Hotels - And People Still go to Hawaii ??

Hawaii is a cluster of islands which are now under the U.S.A. and is considered a part of North America. It is located in the Pacific Ocean.

The state of Hawaii is made of over a hundred islands. It spreads to over 1,500 miles. The main islands, Kauai, Nihau, Molokai, Lanai, Oahu, Kahoolawe, Hawaii and Maui, are located to the south east of the archipelago. Hawaii is the largest of these islands and thus, is referred to as the Big Island so that the name is not confused with that of the state.

Hawaii was taken under the Union and became the 50th state of the U.S.A in 1959. The capital of Hawaii is Honolulu. It is the southern most state of the U.S.A. and it does not share a border with any other U.S state. But, it is the only state that is separated by water from the mainland. And it is also the only American state to be completely surrounded by water.

An interesting fact is that, in the English language itself, Hawaii is pronounced in four ways and even in Hawaiian, there are differences. Another one is that the state of Hawaii is growing in size continuously. Hawaii is home to the tallest mountain if the height be measured from the base in the sea, Mt. Mauna Kea in the Pacific. The Big Island is the fifth highest in the world.

All the islands forming Hawaii were formed as a result of volcanoes. The source of the lava is inside the ocean. All the volcanoes that erupted have left behind some very beautiful natural features.

As these islands were made due to volcanoes, all the inhabitants, other than the human beings, came over via wind, the ocean waves and by flight.

Hawaii is home to a lot of different types of plants and animals. It is in fact home to the most number of endangered species of the world.
